Sciatica

Sciatica is a pain that radiates from the lower back to the buttocks and down the back of one or both legs. It is caused by the irritation of the sciatic nerve(s), the largest nerve in the body. The pain from sciatica can come on quickly in the lower back and then soon can "radiate" to the blower leg or legs.
This nerve can become irritated through subluxation (or bone misalignment), swollen discs, or other disc problems. This can cause an extreme amount of pain as well as make daily activities very difficult to perform.
Chiropractic care works by addressing and correcting the misaligned bones in the back which will remove pressure from the nerve and thus reduces pain while increasing function.
Symptoms to be aware of include:
- sensation changes on the back of the calf or the sole of the foot
- numbness, tingling, burning pain in the back of the calf or the sole of the foot
- weakness of the knee or foot
- difficulty walking
