Traffic jams…paying bills…deadlines…pesky neighbors…
These unpleasant or challenging situations create stress in our lives. So why is
it some people deal with these stress situations better than others? The answer
is complex and includes many factors from genetics to weather conditions, but an
interesting study in The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
(JMPT) indicates that there is a relationship between Chiropractic and the
effect it can have on dealing with stress situations in your life.
This study revealed that nearly one in three patients viewed their lives as
moderately to severely stressful, and more than 50% felt that stress had a
moderate-to-severe impact on their health problems. Additionally, 71% of the
patients indicated that it would be helpful if their Chiropractor offered advice
to help them cope with these stressful situations.
Communicating with your Chiropractor about dealing with stress is the starting
point, and you might be pleasantly surprised to find that your Doctor of
Chiropractic is full of sound advice on ways to effectively cope with stress in
your life. Most people know that improving nerve and spinal function has a
dramatic impact on improving emotional, mental and physical function. Getting
the most out of your Chiropractic care may include talking to your doctor about
effective strategies to deal with the stress in your life. Be sure to inform
your doctor of chiropractic about your personal situations when appropriate so he or she can help
you improve your health and wellness at maximum levels.

Newsletter)
What are you doing about your stress?
Chiropractors as well as others understand that problems with your spine and
nervous system come from three primary stresses: Physical, Chemical and
Emotional. In fact, did you know that Ronald Pero, Ph.D., chief of cancer
prevention research at New York’s Preventative Medicine Institute and professor
of medicine at New York University measured the immune systems of people under
chiropractic care as compared to those in the general population and those with
cancer and other serious diseases? In his initial three-year study of 107
individuals who had been under chiropractic care for five years or more, the
chiropractic patients were found to have a 200% greater immune competence than
people who had not received chiropractic care, and 400% greater immune
competence than people with cancer and other serious diseases! The superiority
of those under chiropractic care did not diminish with age! (This study is in
the process of being duplicated)
Dr. Pero states, “When applied in a clinical framework, I have never seen a
group other than this chiropractic group to experience a 200% increase over the
normal patients. This is why it is so dramatically important. We have never seen
such a positive improvement in a group.” [TOP]
::A Fool's Birth::
Did you know?
The modern version of April Fools' started around 1562 when Pope
Gregory introduced a new calendar with the year beginning on January 1st.
Many people, however, continued celebrating the new year on April 1st, thus the
birth of the "April Fools'" phrase.
One of the best April Fools' jokes was started in 1998 when
Burger King ran an ad in USA Today to announce its new "Left-Handed Whopper".
Though it was obviously a joke, the company said thousands went to Burger King
to request the new left-hand-friendly burger! And if you think that's
funny, go to Google.com near April 1st to see what tricks they have up their
sleeves for April Fool's Day - they always do something fun! [TOP]

By now you have experienced the benefits of Chiropractic care to your health.
But what about your children? Have you ever considered bringing them in for a
chiropractic checkup?
Surprisingly, the first stress placed on a child’s spinal column is during the
birthing process. Equally surprising is the fact that 25% of children surveyed
at school reported a history of back pain.
A child’s spine is frequently subjected to repeated forces in the process of
learning to walk as well as a multitude of childhood mishaps, sport-related
injuries and postural strains. Many adults that come in to a Chiropractor’s
office show evidence of childhood injuries to their spine that are a
contributing factor to their current pain and other problems that they
experience today. This is why it is so important to have your child’s spine
checked regularly for any signs of signal imbalances or misalignments.
Fortunately, Chiropractic care has had many positive results in treating some
very common childhood maladies. Problems like colic, headaches, ear infections,
scoliosis, asthma and even some cases of behavioral problems and bed-wetting
have been successfully treated with Chiropractic care. In fact, a recent study
showed that children under Chiropractic care suffered from fewer ear infections
than those whose parents sought medical care alone.
=Are Chiropractic adjustments safe for children?=
Absolutely! Because a child’s skeletal system is still developing, there is a
great deal of elasticity within the joints. Light pressure is usually all that
is needed to adjust a child’s spine.
So the next time you come in to our office, bring your children! The few minutes
you invest in your child’s spinal checkup today may save them needless suffering
tomorrow!

A rose is not just a rose
It’s prom season, so here are a few tips on buying flowers for your prom
date:
For the guys: It is customary for the boy to buy a corsage for his date.
It can be a pin-on type, or one that can be worn around the wrist. Some even buy
a small bouquet that a girl can carry in her hand or a display of roses to rest
in her arm. It’s a good idea to know what color dress your date is wearing so
that the flowers that you choose will compliment her attire as opposed to clash
horribly!
For the gals: Girls usually buy a boutonniere for their dates. Usually it
is a pin-on carnation or rose with baby’s breath to be worn on the right lapel.
An extra pointer:
flowers do have meaning behind them. Here is a list of a few:
- Carnation: consistency, joy
- Chrysanthemum: optimism, hope, happiness
- Daisy: purity, love, innocence
- Freesia: trust
- Gladiola: remembrance
- Iris: faith, wisdom, promise
- Larkspur: appreciation
- Lily: devotion
- orchid: love, beauty
- Red rose: true love, desire
- White rose: true love, purity
- Yellow rose: friendship
- Pink rose: sweetness
- Tulip: love at first sight
- Snapdragon: virtue

::Candy Can Be
Good for You?:: Easter right around the corner,
the Metro Denver Dental Society would like to dispel some misconceptions –
namely, that candy is worse for teeth than juice, sports drinks and sodas.
Actually, the Society says that these liquids are capable of doing more damage
to a child’s teeth than chocolate and other sweets. A 20-oz bottle of Mountain
Dew®, for example, contains 77 grams of sugar, compared with only 22 grams found
in a Hershey® bar. Gatorade® contains 35 grams of sugar compared with a serving
of Oreo® Cookies® that only contain 30 grams. About 80 percent of a child’s
typical diet, the Society says, can cause cavities, including breads, cookies
and milk and countless desserts. To reduce the number of cavities, parents
should watch their children and make sure they brush their teeth immediately
after they eat candy. This is especially true with hard candy or licorice, which
can often get stuck between teeth and remain there for days. Flossing is also
important – but before you brush, not afterward. Other tips for parents include:
limiting candy eating to once per day, preferably after meals; and if brushing
teeth is impossible at the time, make sure that children at least rinse their
mouths. [TOP]

::Is Bottled Water Healthier than Tap?::
to the Archives of Family Medicine, you can save a bundle by
drinking plain 'ole tap water. Water from the faucet is more likely to
offer you health benefits and even be more "pure" than some bottled water
brands. For one, tap water contains fluoride, which helps to prevent tooth
decay and osteoporosis. Only 5% of bottled water companies adhere to
public water fluoride standards, reports Harvard.
Secondly, tap water is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency which
required municipalities to follow strict safety regulation in water quality.
Bottled-water companies are not required to follow the same rigorous quality
standards.
What's more, controlling some substances in bottled water may be more
difficult, because bottled water tends to be stored for longer periods of time
and at higher temperatures than tap water. [TOP]

::Pregnancy & Chiropractic::
it possible to improve your pregnancy with Chiropractic care? This
article is aimed to answer some questions regarding that very topic.
Today's woman constantly juggles an incredible number of responsibilities
such as jobs, children, friendships, family, marriages, errands, appointments
and much more - the list is endless! You've got to be healthy just to keep
up! Women have special health concerns during each phase of their lives;
pregnancy is certainly no exception and is in fact one of the most important
and complex phases! Although the changes women experience from pregnancy
are natural, a little extra help is always needed to cope with the dramatic
changes in their bodies.
A perfect pregnancy...
In addition to the noticeable changes pregnancy causes in a woman's body,
pregnancy can cause subtle changes in the musculoskeletal system; changes your
Chiropractor is able to detect and correct. Because the baby lies forward
in the woman's body during pregnancy, her center of gravity shifts and the spine
alters itself to accommodate this change. As a result, many expectant
mothers may experience low back and pelvic pain. These stresses and
strains can be relieved with regular Chiropractic care. Many Chiropractic
patients report that their deliveries were faster, easier and much more
comfortable than deliveries prior to Chiropractic care.
It is especially important during pregnancy that nerve impulses flow from the
brain to all parts of the body. A slightly out-of-place vertebra can
create nerve irritation that snarls the body's communication system. Using
gentle spinal adjustments, the Chiropractic Doctor can relieve this nerve
irritation, allowing the body's energy to flow freely again and eliminate
periodic pain through nature's own healing power. Your doctor will use
special, modified techniques during your pregnancy to make your spinal
adjustments easy and more comfortable.
It's easier to be fit, healthy and experience a trouble-free pregnancy when
your body freely sends the right messages. Chiropractic care focuses on
the overall effects of spinal misalignments on the nerves that carry
health-giving energy to every cell of the body. Chiropractic helps women
get well and stay well - before, during and after their pregnancies!
CAREFUL, MOM!
=TIPS TO EASE THE STRAIN OF CARING FOR A BABY=
for a baby is rewarding - and hard work. Like other kinds of work that
require lifting, bending, long periods of sitting, and repetitive motions, it
can be harmful to your body. Try these simple tips to prevent problems before
they begin.
•Put one foot on a box or low shelf when you stand and
change diapers. This causes your pelvis to tilt in a way that decreases pelvic
fatigue.
•Keep work surfaces at a comfortable height. Put
something under the legs of the changing table, for instance, to raise it if
you're tall.
•Don't try to hold the baby and wrestle the side of a
crib down at the same time. Instead, drop the crib side before you pick up the
child.
•Don't bend from the waist when you lift the child.
Squat with your back straight, keep the child close to you, and use your leg
muscles to rise.
•Don't bend over into the car when putting your child
in the car seat. Sit sideways on the seat with the child on your lap, then
rotate to face front and put the child in the seat.
•Make sure your feet touch the floor and your back is
supported when you sit holding your child. Keep your knees at the same height as
your hips or slightly higher.
•Adjust stroller handles so you're not bending over
when you push.
•When loading a stroller or groceries in the car
trunk, rest one foot on the bumper and keep the load close to your body. [TOP]

BUG OFF!
Some 200 new computer viruses are reported every month, and more
than 50,000 digital bugs are known so far.
So make sure you’re protecting your computers at home and at
work. Here’s how:
Check new programs and files before you open them.
Never open attached files from unknown sources. And always run an antivirus
program to check software.
Deal with a virus at the first
sign of infection.
If you run regular virus checks, you should be able to catch a virus before it
spreads. A good precaution to take is to use an automatic virus-detection
software and another antivirus program.
Update your antivirus software
regularly.
Experts advise that you update the software every month for your home computer
and every week for corporate systems. Many antivirus programs have updates that
can be downloaded from the Web.
Periodically back up your files.
Copy your important files to floppies or zip drives. If a virus does get
through, you’ll have your most important document on hand.
